The construction of hydraulic works is directly related to water resource safety and human life. Structures such as reservoirs, canals and dikes are often located in remote areas with fragmented transportation, which complicates monitoring. The monitoring process is strongly affected by weather and hydrological factors caused by adverse conditions (drought, flooding, rain, rising water levels, etc.). Monitoring the construction progress of large-scale hydraulic infrastructure in hard-to-access areas has become an urgent practical problem. This study presents a method using a time series of Sentinel-1 radar satellite images to monitor the construction progress of the Pinglu Canal (Guangxi, China). The proposed method enables remote monitoring of large infrastructure, overcoming weather limitations and field-access constraints, and opens a practical application direction for water resource management and cross-border infrastructure monitoring.
