Abstract

This paper presents an assessment of modern crustal motion in Vietnam through the application of regional kinematic models. The Sundaland kinematic models of Simons and Michel are introduced, along with the theoretical basis of kinematic modeling, particularly the use of the Euler pole to describe the rotational motion of tectonic plates. The absolute velocities of Vietnam's territory according to the Michel, Simons, and Nuvel-1A models are calculated and compared. The differences between the models and actual measurement results are analyzed, thereby providing comments on the suitability level of each model for the current crustal motion of Vietnam's territory.
